If you like games and have been on the internet tonight, then you know that it is currently kersploding with excitement over Tim Schafer’s announcement that Double Fine will be making a new adventure game and funding the whole thing on Kickstarter. In about 2 hours, the project has already raised $158,986 and there is no end in sight. I’ve been staring at the project page since it launched, refreshing and freaking out as hundreds and then thousands of backers joined in to support Double Fine and independent games.
One of the best parts of this experience has been reading the comments on the project. I share with you some of my favorites:

Two themes have clearly emerged. People WANT quality adventure games, and they don’t want publishers standing in the way. They also want to give Tim Schafer all the moneys in the whole wide world.
Old Game Industry, meet the New Game Industry. It’s made of creators and supporters.
*Update: The Double Fine Adventure project hit its goal sometime while I was sleeping last night, and as of this morning, they’ve raised over $581,000.
**Updated update: Over $1 million pledged in less than 24 hours, Double Fine Adventure has broken all the Kickstarter records.
In two days, they’ve raised $1.36 million. What the fuck.
