Welcome to Matter Anti-Matter, a site about nerd stuff. By day, I work at Kickstarter.

NBC’s Rock Center will feature a segment on Kickstarter tonight. It’s exciting, and if this clip is any indication, the side of the back of my head might be on national television:

Anyways, my parents will be watching because they are parents and I’m glad they’ll get to see what goes on at my office and what (as my mom says) “Kickstart” is. Apparently their closest point of reference is some ABC show called Shark Tank, which when they describe it has absolutely nothing to do with what Kickstarter is.
There’s a catch, of course. Now I have no idea if I should be legitimately worried about this, but in the same episode of Rock Center, they’ll be doing a segment on a website called Awkward Family Photos.
A few years back my sister submitted a couple of pretty awkward photos to awkwardfamilyphotos.com prominently featuring my mom, dad, and aunt standing in front of a few Chinese geographical landmarks that just happen to look like this. The images were a big hit on the site, so much so that they contacted us and requested permission to include the photos in a coffee table book. Already fearful that our parents would discover that they had become a minor internet meme, we said no.
To date, we’ve been certain my parents would never find out about the photos circulating the internet because mom and dad aren’t really out and about on the internet. They use it to send emails and look at photos on facebook but that’s about it.
There is a part of me that is paranoid that as my parents are glued to their television watching this episode of Rock Center and waiting to see the side of the back of my head appear on national tv, they will soon after discover that we surreptitiously uploaded photos of them onto the internet.
